Hello,

My two pole output genny is now producing just over 400 volts rather than the nominal 220. I suspect that there may be a fault in the diode/s, but before I embark upon major surgery [to gain access] has anyone got thoughts they would like to share?

Thank you,

John G

Have you checked the large smoothing capacitors on top of the alternator, one of mine blew and dropped the voltage to 120v, might be a similar problem

AC generator

My guess is that the problem is almost certainly a failure of the regulator. Like a car alternator this will sample the output voltage and use this to reduce/control the field current so control the o/p voltage to correct 240vAC. If it is not finding the output voltage or not producing the DC needed to control the field current then it will assume a large load and low output voltage so increase the field current to max. Just general theory I ma afraid good luck olewill
