Electrical connectors: dielectric gel or not?

What do you recommend as (preventative) maintenance to electrical sockets/connectors that are potentially exposed to (salty) water? i.e. the plugs for the windlass, the charger/socket to the EV outboard... etc:

1. Clean, spray with proprietary electrical connector lube
2. Cover with abundant dialectric gel/grease
3. nothing
 
1 then option 2 as backup. Contralube 770 (I think) used to be what I used from Maplins - now extinct , but other dialectric grease or silicon grease to be used secondly 👍
