Our anchor winch worked without problems. Recently lost the anchor, during which it had a fairly rough time(!). After replacing the anchor and chain the winch was immediately intermittent. It reeled in about 25m of the new chain, but now there is only a loud click from the relay/solenoid in the adjacent electrics box, but no drive from the winch.
Any suggestions?

I had exactly the same snag last week with a Loftens control box. All it turned out to be was a couple of the connections getting a bit corroded. Took em off, WD40 to death, good wipe up and hey presto!

Hope you get as lucky as I felt. Maybe vibration from chain?

Thanks, Harry
It dawned on me after I placed the post that I should have put 'winch' (whihc means something quite different in Glasgow!) in search. I found a few threads that all basically said, 'check the electrics'. I will.

Bear in mind that the switch wiring will be fused (fuse is OK, hence the click) but the main supply to the contactor (relay) will normally be fitted with a breaker/trip.

No doubt yours is the normal arrangement, but mine has fuses. IIRC, a 100A fuse for the windlass & 200A fuses for the winches.

Breakers might be better, but there you go...

my chain dumps in a heap and jams.

I have to knock the heap over every 30m (only when it is calm).

Presume you have checked inside the locker to make sure the chain has plenty of room to fall into.
