I've been conned into repairing a broken metal post on a jetty on Ullswater.
I'm a decent arc and MIG welder, but have not welded in a watery environment before.
Any of you experts have any specialist knowledge of precautions I should take?
I will be on the jetty at all times.

Make sure your prep work is extremely clean and dry. Don't wear steel toecapped boots. Have a mate stand by to make sure no cables, earth clamps etc can accidently come in contact with the water while you are welding and you should have no problems. In fact it is that well worn chestnut of safety first.

I used to work in the north sea\ oil industry, and often welded fabrications waist deep in water ,wearing waist heigh water proofs ,never had a problem ,only if your gloves got wet,and that was mostly the assistant, who was holding the metal ,they got a little tingle .regards Ian

How true.
The project turned into a debacle as someone else involved with the jetty also arranged for someone to repair it.
Sensing that getting the money may become an issue we backed off and launched Bro-in-law's boat and went for a chug instead.
Much more fun.
Thanks for the info though.
