When ours stopped dropping down I rang the distributors - "It's supposed to have a spring", why doesn't it I say "because it adds to the manufacturing costs; we'll send you a pair for free plus £4.95 postage". I doubt the spring would help much either!

What size of spring, roughly? I have friends with a 'lazy' flapper.

About 2 inches long, the diameter of the round brass weight on the flappy rubber seal. It cured the problem straight away.
