Electric oil scavenger pump

I bought one from Aldidl (still there, Lidl I think) for £12.
Probably maybe rubbish but worth a go. I saw an engineer use a decent one but don't remember where he put the crocodile clips to get the power - negative anywhere on the block, but where to connect the positive?
No calling me a numpty please, that's a given!

Thanks Steve, I knew there would be a helpful answer out there somewhere.
Not sure why Normanb thinks it would be easier for me to rig up extensions to the short wires that come with the pump!

Also the alternator +ve is usually directly connected to the battery, often via the starter +ve.

I used one of these on my car recently. Shifted all but an egg cup full of oil but did take about 5 minutes. I had to twirl the suck up tube to get all the oil out. I will never go back to the mess of draining from the sump on a car.

I used mine on a 6.3l Cummins once. Took about 40 minutes

So - the starter solenoid +ve was easiest to locate and worked fine, thanks.
The Lidl pump sprung to life - but I kept having to switch it off every 10 minutes to let it cool down, as recommended in the instruction manual.
Some considerable time and many cups of tea later, the slow trickle accumulated 6 and a bit litres of oil.
The noise was quite irritating after a while.
Anyone want to buy a £12 pump - 50p??

Get a Pela sucker, just needs the occasional pump to keep the vacuum up, and works silently until you reach the gurgle that says it's done.

I bought an electric model from Halfords many years ago, probably about 20 years. I don't believe Pela pumps were around at that time. I expected it to die after a couple of oil changes but it just kept on going. I was impressed with Pela when they appeared on the market and decided that I'd buy one when the electric one died. Still using it as it pumps out 5 litres in about 6-8 minutes, is more compact than Pela and just keeps running. I now firmly expect it to expire this year but I say that every year.

Pretty certain the modern equivalent won't survive very long and Pela is a much more elegant solution.
