I'm thinking about swapping our standard Jabsco head for an electric one, as my missus is developing a creaky back and wrists and has trouble doing the manual pumping out.
Anyone had experience with electric heads, do they work well, get blocked, draw loads of amps etc etc. Any advice gratefully received.

Had an electric jabsco when I bought the boat - damn thing kept blocking. Changed it for the relative simplicity of the manual version. Had I known more at the time would probably have bought the Lavac, as it's even simpler, and therefore more reliable. Now I'll just have to wait, as one £150 bog is enough for a while !

Having had the pump type toilet and several repair/replacement parts, I fitted a conversion electric pump which replaces the hand unit. I found this to be excessively noisy so replaced the whole unit with a Jabsco quiet flush. I have had this 6 years now and I can highly recommend it . Low maintenance to the point I haven't had to repair it at all over this period, and it has had a lot of use.

Avoid the Jabsco 29200 conversion...it makes enough noise to wake the dead and draws a whopping 24 amps, compared to only 16 for most other electric toilets.
It also costs more than most complete macerating electric toilets.

The best "basic" electric macerating toilet on the market is the Raritan SeaEra...uses only about 2 litres of flush water, as quiet as its possible to make any raw water electric toilet (contrary to what most people believe, it's not the discharge pump and macerator that makes all the noise, it's the raw water intake pump), draws 16 amps, and is exceptionally reliable/durable...far more so than any Jabsco.

AllanRichard, after 6 years it's time to rebuild your toilet if you want it to remain trouble free...that should be done every five years as preventive maintenance...the joker valve should be replaced at least every two years, better yet, annually.

Anyone who can find romance in a discussion about marine toilets is definitely looking for romance in all the wrong places? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Au contraire
Surely - "greater love hath no man than he who would pump out his wife's poo"

Our electric bog is wonder to behold - there can be no sterner (oh dear!) test than the Chentleman's cruise and it wheeched awa all that was sent its way.

We have the Jabsco. It works well although slightly more inclined to block than a manual one. Problem is that people don't hold down the flush botton long enough and paper tends to collect in the U bend and dry out and block the outlet pipe. We ask people to flush for 30 seconds to ensure its only water left in the outlet pipe.

For the same reasons as you I installed and electric heads last year - my wife is ill and could not cope with 'pumping'.... I got a Plastimo Electric heads for £200. It works fine and was simple to install. The only problem is that if the electric motor fails that's it.. You are stuck. The cost of a replacement electric motor is £195 -- I am not going far these days so it's no real problem.

If I was off across the Atlantic/pacific I would want a manual one simply to reduce the battery drain but for a marina based boat I think it is probably the way to go.. I mean with all the other electronic gizmo's and frankly why do we want to pump away when you can press a button....

raritan phe ii , I an electric and a manual one, good bit of kit with the advantage you can easily de convert it if the battery goes flat. had the electric one over 7 years , no problems.
