I know that poorly earthed boats can cause corrosion problems in neighbouring boats but can anyone tell me if electrcity cables in the water can have the same effect?

My marina have thoughtfully gone and plonked an electricity sub-station next to my mooring /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif The power supply for a load of new moorings on the opposite bank emerges from the quay heading (right next to where the stern of my boat sits) and goes into the water and accross to the other side.

It is obviously waterproof cable but could there be problems with corrosion/anodes wasting very quickly?

Electrolosis is a bit of a black art, but I have gone into it quite a bit myself. I think you are justified in thinking that this could lead to a lot my problems! Electricity anywhere near the water seems to earth out and damage your expensive metal bits! I would either complain and tell them that if there is substantialy more electrolosis damage to your boat than before the cables were there they can pay for it! or move the boat!
