Elba cruise - any tips?

It's all nice great location ,
Study the charts a few rocks about near the coast .
Portoferrano is especially nice.
Corsica is less than 2 hrs in a MoBo
That area of Italy is ie the coast is a bit boring so stay off the mainland if poss and visit the other islands .
Whatch out for speeding ferries ,

Hello! Off to Elba for a week's charter cruise. Anyone got any tips of nice anchorages, must-see places? Thanks

Do you get a certificate at the end, to prove that you you can tell your *rse from yer elba?

Sorry - years of living next to a brewery that didn't /quite/ get the "management seminar" idea of awarding certificates for "organising p155ups" ... ;-)

I was a crew on a charter there in the early 1970s and don't remember much about the places, I'm afraid. Except that if asking locals about going to Capraia, don't pronounce it "Capri" (as in the island S of Naples) because it will engender much confusion!

BTW Google Maps doesn't recognise Portoferrano, but wants to spell it Portoferraio.

Mike.

thanks for the answers. Does anyone know if there is a decent cruising guide to the area?[/QUOTe

Very interesting island - Portoferraio super. Don't know why Napoleon left!!
Berthing stern to in the harbour - can be noisy, but worth it for touristy reasons.
Two or three other nice ports of call all around the island.
Capraia also worth a visit - old penal colony. Nice walk up to unspoilt old town.

I'm envious!!

I think one of either Reeds or Imray cover it in a pilot.
