Elan Power 35

Hi all,

I'm new to the forum and have read all posts on YBW with reference to the Elan Power 35.

I'm seriously considering purchasing one of these. I've done as much research as I can on Elan's history and specifically on the Elan P35, but I still haven't actually seen one, so now's the time.

Unfortunately the nearest examples I'm interested in are in France and Italy, so before I commit making those trips, I'd like to ask if anyone in the UK currently owns one that I could possibly view?

It's a long shot as these are rather rare beasts, but if you don't ask....

Also, if anyone has experience of any of the Elan Power boats, your opinion would be appreciated.

I don’t know much about the Elans but there’s a 2004 one for sale in Jersey/Guernsey for £89k powered by twin KAD44s.

I've spoken to the agent already and they sold me they're only selling within Guernsey which is a shame.

I've contacted numerous MDL and Premier marinas but to no avail.

Looks like I'll have to make the long journey.

Yes I've spoken with the broker who's selling that 42 and they've told me that someone who's interested in buying it has an Elan Power 35 to sell, but, that 35 is in Norway

One was recently sold by Clipper marine in Poole and resides in Port of Poole marina now.
You could approach the broker he might be able to tee up a visit with the new owner.

Elan 35 has a good hull, and nice interior finishing. The interior was for example IMO better in finishing to a Cranchi or Sealine (of similar age), and a bit less to that of Fline/Princess/Sseeker.
The hull running capabilities are very good possibly superior to the three famous Brits. Elan 35 runs better to a Targa 37 for example.
Negatives
Aft deck is a bit cramped IMO.
Gel-coat in some med boats tended to get a bit yellowish over the years, and also tended to be a bit wobbly in the finishing moulding side.

I also had a story from a captain who was delivering a 42 who told me the stringers broke loose during delivery of a new demo boat to her owner, while finding a bit of rough seas (1 to 1.5 meter seas).

Running on YT I think there is a German couple who now have a new V40 who had an Elan 35 before her, may be you could message them for owner experience info.

Hi Bradley

Ok will give you a bit of info, feel free to ask any specific questions.

We have a 2004 Power 35 - 'Nutmeg' which is kept on Loch Lomond. Had the boat coming up for 2 years in July. So far it's been great and perfect size for both the Loch and the family (me, my wife and two teens).

Nutmeg has twin D4-260s with DPH-A drives. So far been reliable, save for a shifting issue with the starboard drive which I've now found to be a shift yoke on the drive which seems to be a known issue with the early DPH. New yoke should sort it out.

She performs well and is pretty quick for the size - will nudge 40mph on a calm day, also pretty good on fuel, if just cruising along. Really like the finish of the boat - always getting comments on the quality of the finish in the saloon, likewise the lines of the boat bring positive comments.

The sliding roof gives a bit of flexibility - a convertible boat!

Aside from the shift issue the only things we've had to do are upgrades we have decided to make. Current one in progress is switching the reverse cycle air con out for a diesel heater system. The reverse cycle probably works great in the med but not quite enough heat from cold loch waters....
