I have a leak from under the pedestal on my 1984 Edson steering pedestal. Has anyone removed and resealed one of these? I was wondering how difficult for DIY?. Can it be done without disconnecting wires and engine control cables?. Or is this a task for pro.
Not a real handy guy but can fix my own brake pads. change a starter. or radiator hose but wood working likely to be a bit squint. boats new to me and I have a honey dew list from survey. This seams to be the most challenging.

We removed ours for a refurb a few years ago .You will need to disconnect the cables one side ,to give your self enough slack, and lift the chain off the sprocket .This is under the flat plate on top of the pedestal.
The ally coating corroded on ours and needed a bit of work to get it flat and good enough to re bed on the deck.Good luck.
