Does anyone know if it is necessary to do a computer reset on the EDC (TAMD74) after a routine engine service? Not sure if there is any data that needs resetting eg oil use hours, engine hours between service etc?

Anyone ever tried to connect a computer to the EDC themselves? Is there any commercial interface software around?
I know that car manufacturers have had to make their diagnostic computers open source code now but doubt it applies to the marine industry.

thanks

It would be great to have this facility.
However - I've just bought a set of workshop manuals and it confirms that the equipment needs to be regularly connected to Volvo using an internet download.
Also is automatically updates the software inside the EDCs - something I'd rather leave to the experts.
Personally, I'd like to see some of the history that this equipment is able to read.

No its not neccessary to reset the EDC after servicing on your 74, only if you need to remove fault codes, or if you change components i,e, EDC, Dual station splitter box or control box in which case it needs a full recalibration. The new D series have time to service countdown timers which need resetting after servicing.
Having worked for one of the largest diagnostic equipment manufacturers (Sun Electric) I can confirm that you won't be able to get in with your laptop!, The system uses a series of 'Electronic handshakes' to gain access and only Volvo dealers can get these from Volvos main server, and as correctly stated the EDC is given any relevant software up grades automatically, ( we use a Palm)
True the car market has gone open source, but you still need to buy the relevant software and possibly a form of operating system and a harness which puts it beyond economic reach of most owners.

You may not want to know what we can read from the history file, as it tells us when the engine has been operated outside of its normal parameters, in other words you have been thrashing its b****s off!

thanks spannerman, I've also just received a reply from Volvo confirming that no reset is needed.
Guess I'm not surprised about the closed architecture. I'll just stick with the rather user unfriendly flashing lights on the control panel!
