Has anyone tried this paint on their hulls.

I have some blurb with some mighty claims that it will last for 10-15 yrs. The Belgium navy have it applied to a minesweeper called Aster.

It says it is super smooth, non toxic, and polishes any growth off via speed through the water. Even if growth is heavy it power washes off quickly and requires no recoating. Seems too good to be true.

Made by Subsea industries in Holland.

Would like to know if it works as might be a good solution to the annual/bi-annual power wash / haircut & shave routine....

Looking at the photos it looks like it works on Props / rudders too.

That would be a result.

With all these things I like to see/hear some results from users before taking the plunge!

Maybe TCM will try it for us? (if he is still the boats owner)

Re: Bollx

I don't think that providing a fairly shiny painted surface of the type they describe is anti-weed or antibarnacle. Evidence:

1. on the side of one boat we had, the antifoul wasn't high enuf. The green weed attached on the brand new gelcoat and was a right pain to get off. Going fast did no good at all. And this was only the flimsy strands of entry level Port Solenty type of weed, not very deep shit sort of lurgy ooer weed that grows in the outside world, yeknow, like outside the lock gates, where there are other boats as well.

2. in the deep end (the med) the bastard silveryback cannibal barnacles sneak up the generator primary inlets and roost on the inside glass of the inspection filters. So, it being all smooth is no prob to them, imho. And lots of water swooshing past - they like that as well. Only a jetblast can gettem off.

3. The pix only show a nice new bit of paint "befor" and not "after" which is a bit rubbish.

4. The killer: they call it Ecosea! This is a very very bad sign, imho. I want it called "Class A HydroNitridalChloric Antifoul NOTE: seek immediate hospital assistance if this lands on your skin. It is illegal by EC law to use this antifoul paint on a boat, punishable by going to prison for not less than five years." I bet some stuff like that might work quite well, and would certainly encourage me to give it a go (in Gibraltar, ahem).

Re: Bollx

Yes, i agree with you.

The burb pix have the minesweeper with big growth but then go on to say that the diving team took less than a day to clean the ship.........rather defeats the object I thought as I want something that will cause the shit to fall off as soon as I go above say 12/15 knots!

Hence the post to see / weed out any 'real' users.

The anti foul that caused a rash on the faces of the applicators faces was the stuff to use - but the tree huggers stopped its use. very selfish indeed.
We now are permiited , indeed obliged, to kill the marine species in ballast water in ships yet we cannot harm the beasts that foul the underwater bits.

Bloody daft or what?
