Hello,

Is there an environmently friendly antifouling? One that doesnt have biocides or copper in it but keeps the weeds away without polluting other organisms?

Many thanks.

To stop something growing by nature has to create an inhospitable environment which will either be physical or chemical.

I think large ships use special silicon or teflon coatings that are too slippery for anything to get a purchase. I think these need professional application and may not work on relatively slow moving craft that spend alot of their time going nowhere as opposed to ships that try to spend as much time on the move as possible. You probably have to buy it by the hundreds of litres too.

There is apparently also something called SealCoat AF which dries to small fibres which stop growth attaching by moving about in the water. No idea if it is for stationary objects or ships as it sounds like it would create drag but I have no idea.

Ultrasonic kit is supposed to work but it seems dubious.

thank you for your comments, seems as if it has yet to be invented.
There was a thread going on an american website some 15 years ago, extolling the benefits of zinc and castor-oil on a pre-cleaned hull.
Apparently it lasted quite well and only needed to be re-done a couple of times during a season.
Most of the posters appeared to be in the Bay are, so I don't know how it would work here or what's happened to the website.
