I came across the range of Echopilots Bronze instruments in a mail order catalogue that came through the post.

I was going to install some nasa instrumetns but these are in the same price range and can also be used to display gps info.

They look good but I've never heard of them before, has anyone got any experiences of them?

Info here: http://www.echopilot.com/depth.htm

Just ordered an Echopilot FLS Bronze+ unit and a log/speed unit. was impressed with the ability to act as a GPS repeater as well as a speed log. Staff at LIBS were very helpful and the FLS unit has been praised by others on this forum.

Will be some time before I can report back as I am out of the water until end March.

Old thread, I know, but I was wondering if anyone had any more recent feedback on these? The Trio seems to give a lot of info in one small display, which is all I have room for.

Hi Ru88el

I described them on my blog a while ago as the the swiss army knife of the marine instrument world. I was more than impressed with the capabilities and all for nasa money - can't go wrong mate.

I have got a Bronze Trio which I like very much.

Mainly on the strength of the GPS repeater, which is great because it lets me see the plotter full screen and also have important info (speed, dis to waypoint etc) in front of my eyes.

I never use the log but I am sure it works fine.

The depth is not so good, probably because I had to put a break in the cable - which you are warned not to do. The main problem is that the depth display hangs up at odd moments - usually picking the worst time. It remains, generally, sort of, usable.

The company were polite but distant and uninterested in the problem.

I fitted two Echopilot Bronze Trio instruments over 2 years ago, to replace some old Stowe displays. As the Echopilot displays can be calibrated to a range of transducer inputs I could keep the original Stowe through hull depth transducer, which is nicely faired into the hull. They can be linked to the plotter/GPS.
There is a huge variety of displays possible: Having 2 displays means one can act as a GPS repeater with course, position, SOG, etc., with the other showing Speed through the water and Depth. I am very pleased with them. They are easy to calibrate and very versatile. On the downside the set-up instructions in the handbook could be improved, and in bright daylight the screens can be a little hard to read.
