hi my eco sounder[target 1] works fine when yacht is sailing slowly or at rest
but any kind of speed and there are lots of random numbers
now i notice on my hull there is a fitting that is prould 2 " from the hull
sods law dictates its position is directly in front of the sensor
this is inside the hull imersed in oil
would you agree this is probobly the problem?

Yep, sounds just like turbulence, lucky it's in-hull, not too difficult to move it.

Should add... also had this when the cable to the display was too near the soon-to-expire alternator, at higher revs interference managed to break through the screening - it was a Nasa too.. Re-route solved it. Then I changed the alternator.

More likely turbulence though.

Little tip for relocating the sounder head - put a dollop of jam on the transducer face and move it around on the hull until you get a clear signal. Trapped air in the laminate spoils signal. Most people use vaseline, but that's harder to clean off thoroughly.

Do you get the same symptoms motoring in reverse or is it ok?
