Over the last 12 months there has been on and off discussion of an ECF trip to Weymouth during the Olympics to sample the sailing atmosphere....

I've no intentions of getting carried away at this stage with detailed organisation, as its too early, but just wanted to get an idea of how many folk would be interested...

The outline of a plan (as much as there ever is a plan within the ECF!) is to camp somewhere near Weymouth (apparently roofed accomodation is already scarce, and very expensive), and then travel in to the venue where we can find somewhere for a BBQ weather permitting, and watch the comings and goings, see the racing as best as is possible, and watch the giant screen that will be in place for the duration.... and hopefully cheer and applaude a British medal winner or two as well!

I may well, time/numbers allowing try to encourage some of the other ybw factions to organise similar and see if we can coordinate timings to get a mass ybw get together.... could be a lot of fun!

Interested?

Don't really know yet.... i'm kind of wandering if we could have a 'core' couple of days, and then people can extend that in either direction as they see fit.... i'd imagine we'd probably go for a couple of nights minimum as its a long way to go for just one night.... but of course cost and availability will inevitably play a part!

The Jester Azores Challenge also leaves from Plymouth, 27th May that year!! (not sure of exact date of Olympics)

There may well be a few of us sailing down for it which would be fun if we were all to go in convoy.....unlikely I know but a fun thought!!

We have my Conway Canterbury land yacht at your disposal. 8 berth at a squeeze.

There is just a teeny chance that I will be there in an official capacity, and thus working.

Count us in.

Hi Jim, just wondered what you maybe doing in weymouth during the olympics? Please do not keep us all in suspense!!!! lots of love your SWMBO x x x x

Potential Camp Site

I have a friend with a large house in Weymouth with space for several tents on the lawn. Am seeing him the weekend after next and will float the idea then ...... He also has a little speedboat. This could be fun .........

Well, when 'they' let you know what it is you need to know, maybe you could let me know before the east coast, so when thay ask me if I know what it is that you know, I do know what 'they', and you know, before the 'others' know as well! x x x x
