EC Old Gaffers Swallows and Amazons weekend

Nice pictures.
It's good to see all the kids out enjoying the fresh air and copying their heros.

Um, wait a minute, kids?

I've created a set of photo's for the race held on Saturday on Flickr

I'm a Flickr virgin so hope it works. I can see at least one EC forum contributor in his smacks boat.

It was extremely lively and the boat featured in photos 1034, 1035 somehow managed to get himself fixed between our boat and the mooring buoy we had picked up, the line was trapped between his rudder and the hull, we were just getting back from W&FYC when we saw the debacle unfolding, after much head scratching we got him free and he took off like a scalded cat, it was a strange craft, a bit like a whaler, with a fore and aft deck, I asked him if he had an engine (bit of a silly question really, but there might have been something lurking under the aft deck) he shot me a glance and replied 'Good God No!' felt that i might have been calling him an axe murderer.
On the way back he ran aground on the corner and was being blown on, somehow he got into a bit of water and got himself off, his crew (missus?) looked a bit browned off, it was fun to watch though.

They didn't go round the island because of the strength of the wind, instead they went past the marina entrance, across the wade, around Honeypot island, and back again. I positioned myself on the detached Titchmarsh pontoon to take the photo's, then found myself pinned against the pontoon by the high winds. Would you believe it took me 5 hours (involving two sleeps whilst I thought about it) to get off. At a similar sort of time others were coming back across the North Sea in big seas, I couldn't even get out of a small creek.

The white whaler features in quite a few of Dylan's 2009 KTL videos about the Backwaters.

My son (ada on here) went down from Ramsholt to Titchmarsh on Saturday in his Westerly Tiger and returned on Sunday. He did say he had "bumpy" trips both ways but he relishes that sort of thing. His girlfriend wasn't over impressed, I think he did suggest it would be a smoother trip back on the Sunday...........but it wasn't.
