We're about to embark in a couple weeks on a holiday probably Backwaters/Stour/Orwell/Deben/Ore, and if this weather lasts will want to anchor as much as possible, but will need to get our two dogs ashore so wondered where we should be thinking? Stone Point & The Rocks being our only thoughts at present. A lot of the Stour on Saturday on the north bank from Ewarton Ness and upstream looked OK at HW but perhaps difficult to land as the mud stretches out at LW. At Southwold I assume at this time of year you need to raft out so carrying dogs across other peoples boats would mean that would be out as a destination?

Wrabness, pick up a vacant mooring, fols are very friendly there. Nice sandy walks and interesting beach architecture. Then there's the trick we've acquired of popping into a marina to buy £20 of diesel, fill up with water and walk the dog, trouble is we also end up spending £50 in the chandlery

There is a small beach with an anchorage just down river from Pin Mill, to port just after Clamp house and before Butt on your way in. You can get ashore mud free anything above 2.2 over CD. Any lower than that and it's do-able but up to your knees in mud.

We did Felixstowe Ferry & it's not a place I'd want to leave the dinghy out of sight, but have been told of a good walk by a local boater (turn right behind the boatyard and folow the sea wall back up the river). Hope to try the beach below Pin Mill & Wrabness this weekend.
