Yep. You will disappear quietly one night very soon. Posting on a public forum, not good. Run for the woods, take food and sleeping bag. You might survive..

Sorry, I'm in frivolous mood :)

It's on ice.
Not being developed further at the moment, but not exactly dead, either.
The above might be a couple of months out of date.

It would take a lot of work to resurrect it now.

e-Borders will be rolled out in the leisure boating sector from 2011. We actively seek to engage with and listen to members of the leisure boating community, and to ensure that the solutions and processes we implement are workable and secure.

Taken from the UK borders website this afternoon, they are not exactly on track are they?

Perhaps their 'actively seeking' and 'engaging with' members of the 'leisure boating industry' has reduced them to a state of catatonia.

A triumph of meaningless management speak combined witrh civil service inertia.

I think it's more likely that actually listening to the feedback from the potential users made them realise it was a damn fool impractical idea anyway.

I think that is crediting them with too much common sense, my reading of it is that they wasted a great deal of money on IT, suffered a number of cases of mismanagement being exposed, another example this week, found that European legislation made what they intended probably unenforceable and with the pressure on all government spending it has simply been shoved to one side the last thing the government want is an expensive IT project with the opposition of lot of vocal sailors. But we must keep an eye on this, they may still revive the plan anytime.

they may still revive the plan anytime.

As soon as there's money, the thing will be revived.
Because, and make no mistake about this, both Labour and Tories like the look of this scheme.
It plays well with the average 'we must secure our borders' tabloid reader.

And boaters may be a vocal group, but boating is very much a minority interest.

Is that the same sort of engagement as the muppets are using with regards to marine planning? The sort of engagement in which individuals are not consulted and only trade representatives are allowed to make comments..The sort of consultation where trade bodies such as the BMF do not want to appear political so do not feel they can make a fuss.... whilst all the pro interference lobby get a seat round the table?

Of course. The last government was expert at setting up discussion groups to tell ministers what the people wanted. It took some time before the lefties in the media had to admit that only Labour party activists were invited to these sessions. I believe that Lenin invented this form of consultation - or was it Robespierre? Either way, no government will want to uninvent it.
