I have recently installed a new Eberspecher Airtronic D4 in my sailing boat but suspect something to be wrong. The fuel pump pumps with a quite high frequency, 2-4 strokes/second, depending on which of the four different power steps it operates in at the moment.
I also suspect that it consumes to much power which of course could be related to the high pump operating frequency.

Is 2-4 strokes/second normal during normal operation or should I try to investigate this issue further?

Thanks

Check that the thin clear pipe between the pump and the heater does not contain a string of air bubbles. If it does than an air leak on the diesel intake. The other possibility is that you have mounted the heater to high above the diesel pump.

Take the heater of its mounting, lower it down and see if the clicking slows. (Alternatively raise the pump.)
The clicking is quite fast at start up but once the heater is warmed up it slows considerably.

Yes, I also suspect airleaks in the intake pipe and yes, I can see airbubbles moving towards the heater in the white feedline. The funny thing is that when I mentioned this to the Eberspecher dealer, I was told this was normal and no problem as long as it was just bubbles and not larger quantities of air trapped in the line. Strange, as I would believe that after a short period of operation there should not be any air bubbles at all.
I will go through the pipelines and see what I can find.

Thanks!

I have a D5 and it is now starting its 2nd winter. I think it is not as hot as it should be at high heat and it is not behaving properly at low heat settings. This morning I noticed air bubbles in the tube so I suspect it is not getting enough fuel.

I don't know why yet, I will watch this space with interest and let you know if I solve my problem.

My heater is now working properly. There is still a continuous stream of fine bubbles in the clear plastic fuel tube and I am pretty confident there is no air leak unless it is within the fuel pump itself.

I can't say what fixed it. I removed the fuel hose from the pump (and replaced it without changing anything) and did the same for the connection at the tank.

Hi
Good to hear your's working OK. Mine to is OK now, the problem was easy. I use a 20 ltr. plastic can with the suction pipe through a hole in the cap. Because the suction pipe was slightly bendt and a bit to long, it went down the can into the diesel and then turned upwards again, sucking air.
I find it however a bit strange that small air bubbles still can be obeserved in the line. No idea where they come from. But as I said earlier, the supplier says it's normal.

Good luck and thanks.
