Eberspacher wired to Engine Battery?

Hi

A quick question... Our Eberspacher heating appears to be wired to the Engine Start battery rather than the "leisure batterry", is this correct?

On a number of occasions we have had to "link" both batteries in order to get the engine to start. I am worried that this isn't right...

Any comments welcome..

Regards
Matthew

Evening & welcome to the mad house
imho the heater should be wired from the "Domestic" battery bank.
nothing should be wired to the "engine starter battery " but the engine.
a change- over switch is a good safety devise isolating each bank of batteries but able to swop over is emergency

Reckon you would be better connecting heater to leisure batteries to avoid the problem you have already encountered. You could also consider running the heater through voltage controlled circuit. There are a number of devices available that will shut off a load when the house battery voltage drops below a certain voltage thus avoiding flat batteries. Because the Eberspacher draws quite a high current for the glow-plug on start-up and the load values of some of the voltage switches are as small as 10A you will have to consider putting a 30Amp relay in the circuit to enable the device to switch a starting current for the Eberspacher.

Thanks, my suspicions were true then... Goodness only knows how I start to do all that but it sounds good advice - I will try and find a friendly electrician!

but make sure it's 'directly wired' via fuse, not the main switch to make sure it goes thro' the shutdown procedure with no chance of being switched off.

If your engine battery was so discharged that you needed to parallel the batteries to start then you have probably killed your engine battery and should buy a new one.

Once a battery falls below a certain level it cannot be recharged successfully
