I'am looking at fitting either of these heating systems into a 32' boat. I have only just heard of the Wallas heaters, seem a well made kit made for the marine environment. Looking at the 40D model. Any views appreciated

I've no experience of the 40D, but I have a paraffin fuelled model, the 1800, in a sailing boat.
It's a very straighforward design, starts every time, even on lowish volts, and is quiet.
Service from Kuranda seems first class.
I would recommend the make.

Hiya

When I had heating fitted to my 31 foot boat this spring I used a company (Espar) that fit both. Their advise was that the Wallas would be ok for a smaller boat but the Eberspacher would be more effective for our size of boat. We had them fit a 3.9KW and have used it much more than expected this so called summer!

Hi we have a Wallas Nautic 30D fitted and it's been faultless since we bought the boat 5 years ago, although I should qualify by saying we haven't used it much. The heater came with the boat - so it's quite a few years old. Not serviced the heater yet I'm ashamed to say :o

One thing I like is that it's quiet, not something the ebers can claim.

I think the ducting may be larger through the boat though (is that correct?) so you may need to take account of this when thinking about the installation and routing.
33 foot boat btw.

When you say fitting.. you mean you fitting or having fitted?
There are only two things in life that are not worth undertaking yourself.. towbar electrics on a modern car, and boat heating. Pay the the pro ;)

Thanks fot the replies

Although the boat is 32ft the cabin space needing heating is 20ft. I,am looking to have the heating system fitted by a qualified company, for peace of mind and insurance. I like how quite the system seems. Do you know if Wallace heaters draw less amps and are better fuel consumption.

At start up our Wallas draws about 7-10A for a couple of minutes for the glow plug to get going, then once it's all lit it drops to a running current of under 2 amps from memory. About 1.6A I think.

I believe Ebers are very similar but the fan may use a bit more. I'm sure all the info is available in their specs if you go through them.

Every winter on the forum there is always a spate of queries about problems with Ebers (hence their nickname, Ebersplutter..) but I'm never sure if that's just simply because they have been fitted in far larger numbers than other makes or if they require more maintenance (that they clearly don't get!) or are generally more temperamental. Some people swear by them, others at them!

Very few adverse comments about Wallas, although there are far fewer about. Spares easily obtained from Kuranda (in Chapel-en-le-Frith IIRC).

A 40D will be just right for you. Our 30D is only just enough, and sometimes I wish it had a bit more poke in very cold weather - but at the time it was fitted the 40D wasn't available.

Good luck in your decision making:)
