Any EBERSPACHER Airtronic D4 (2003 vintage) experts out there?
We are in the process of MCA coding our boat, and part of the requirement is to replace the plastic EBERSPACHER fuel supply line with a copper line. We have replaced the line with the correct EBER copper line, and also moved the pump into the cockpit locker.
Now the heater will only run for a short time, shuts down, tries again and then shuts down completely.
The supply line has been bled all the way to the heater - is siting the pump further from the tank creating a problem?

You've done the right thing replumbing it. It must be leaking somewhere and/or the filter (in the pump) is blocked.

Hi I recently had a similar problem with my D5 unit. I eventually discovered that i had a small amount of air getting into the pipe when i changed an inline filter. The unit seemed to start fire up run and then shut down. The fuel pump clicked away then just stopped. I suggest you check your fuel pump

With Ebers it is vital to use a copper pipe of the correct bore, i.e. same as the plastic one you discarded. Failure to do this will prevent tank pick-up as the suction from the pulse pump is overcome by the fuel running back down if the pipe is too big. The feed should ideally run up to the pump which is mounted at an angle, then down again on its way to the unit. Disconnect the outlet side of the pump, and using a pair of wires from your battery connect the neutral temporarily to one side of the pump and strike the other terminal of the pump repeatedly to "pulse" the pump. When constant and even jets of fuel emerge, reconnect outlet fuel line and reconnect wires. Assuming no leaks in the suction side the unit will go through start up checks, pulse the pump and fire up. If it does not, remove feed pipe from unit and start unit, spurts of diesel should come out, if not check pump and pipes. If all is well there, check glow plugs etc.

From the installation manual - max. 2m from bottom of fuel pickup in tank to inlet of metering pump. Max. 6m from outlet of pump to inlet of heater. (for diesel). Pipe from tank to pump 2mm bore. Pipe from pump to heater 1.5mm bore.
