It was'nt lack of fuel re my last post.

A tiny filter inside the body of the fuel pump was the problem. Once I found it, and non of the manuals I found on line mention it exists. Cleaned it as best I could refitted and no problems. So it must have been reducing the flow of diesel to the heater.

Need to find a new one but the calls I made denied having a filter in the pump as they are a sealed unit!! Should have a seperate filter in the line before the pump...well mine has'nt...

If it helps anyone its inside the threaded part behind the 17mm nut on the end feeding into the pump. Take the nut off and inside the body is a tiny filter that you prize out with a tiny screwdriver. easy to damage so be careful.

Thanks for feedback and advice from my first post.

Cheers

Gary

Yes, the little filter in the pump..... You can put a small in line car filter before the pump and that will run fine.
Had many of the heaters on trucks and that is what we did.

www.pfjones.co.uk this company carry spares and have a service kit for eberspacher d4 for £13.00 I think it includes the filter thingy. they do a D2 kit as well.

Bah, I have a D3:-( Its on my fiddle list, hoping for a dodgy relay as the fan goes faster but the thing doesn't get hotter if I turn the wick up.

Does anyone know an easy way of identifying exactly what series of unit I have fitted - is there a manufactuers plate somewhere on the unit?

Yes, on the body of the unit a few small numbers and things. One of them will say which model. Mine says D4. On a sticker.

I have 4 outlets. I think the no of outlets determines either a D2 or D4

Cheers again Gary.

OOH you watch this forum to........the advice I got on your live chat was excellent. I do need a new pump filter though. Can I order that from you as a single item or do I need the D4 kit. Bit wary of changing other things in the kit in case I muck the heater up.

Cheers
