Heater on bench.
LOADS of volts.
Fan works
Glow plug works.
Reset switch has continuity
Over heat seems OK.
Have checked PCB inside alloy box. No obvious corrosion.
Does this printed circuit full of chips and stuff need a reset with some sort of Eberspacher magic box ?

Relay on PCB clicks on,... energises external relays and 5 secs later .......clicks off.

Sigh :(

I also have a D3L, fitted in 1988, so i doubt much magic box trickery involved.

5 seconds isn't long, not long enough for overheat issues, it's probably not even lit in 5 seconds. Does the pump run ?

If it helps, I'm about to remove a working one of these if you need any spares, I have it for sale on the for-sale forum... welcome to make me an offer. I hope to remove it this Saturday if time allows.

Have you followed the diagnostic procedure in the manual I linked to in your previous thread?

have gone through all the suggested checks.
Have checked all the individual items that the control box checks by removing and connecting to battery.
Fuel pump clicks with 12V
Glow plug glows with 12V
Reset button gives continuity
Even inserted a 1K resistor in place of the flame checker which is actually showing continuity on a digital multi meter. ?

Apologies for an elementary question, but is the pump delivering fuel when it clicks? Is the filter blocked?

I took the pump off the unit and tapped the terminals against the battery. Each tap gives a minute squirt - or not if the filter is blocked. Good luck.

Wouldn't matter in this case as the heater has not got to the pumping stage cycle.

The entire shebang is lying on the bench with a can of diesel at one end.
No Thermostat, just shorting the Red and Yellow wires to initiate start.
Power fan and it runs perfectly.
Even though the system is ancient, very suprised at the sophistication of the two piece PCB inside the little alloy case.
Starting to consider a new 4KW Planar :(

In that case, it's almost certainly the PCB in the control box. As you've already taken the heater out of the boat, if you take it along to an Eber dealer they can check it for you. Truck diesel dealers are cheaper than "marine" Eber dealers.
