Sorry all, another heating question.

Up until monday afternoon's torrential rain started the heating has fired up every time. However, turn the knob and nothing happens. LED within the switch doesn't come on. No fan noise. Nothing.

Fairly new boat (Moody 346) to me and havn't had a chance to have a look. Before I get back to the boat on Friday can anyone tell me:

1 Where the fuse is likely to be situated (at the boiler end - or where the switch is)
2 What type and size of fuse is likely to be installed

It's a two vent Eberspacher - sorry don't know number.

Thanks

Donald

With the sparse amount of data it is very difficult to provide much help. However there is a known problem on the fuse panel of installations in the last few years. If the wires are pulled by accident, the fuse detached. These fuse blocks are a black square sided unit with two bayonet (car type) fuses. There is a large set of wires from one, and small on the other. Normally the large one is the one that gets disconnected, and thuis allows the system to power up, and all the lights show on the programmer, but the large wire carries the power to the fan so you wont here anything and the system doesnt work. Try pushing the wire back up into the fuse and then re-locating the fuse.

You should find these somewhere close to your main fuse panel.

Thanks for that. It was a bit of a long shot, I know. Will manage to get a closer look at the installation this weekend and I have spare bayonet fuses if needed.

If it's like mine which started life in a van or lorry of some kind (and has the round temperature dial with a light in the middle), it could have it's main fuse in the power lead. The fuse holder doesn't seem to be that great and when I recently opened it up the fuse was quite corroded. Perhaps yours is the same and it isn't making a good contact?

I installed my fuse holder close to the battery to keep the unfused wire as short as possible.

Well, had a look all over the place - from the batteries right to the actual unit. Unless it's hidden inside the actual unit, my heating doesn't seem to have a fuse fitted.

More investigation needed....

Re: Eberspächer - No Power

Do you have a multimeter (voltmeter), it is worth now measuring to see if you have 12v getting to the unit. There is another thing worth checking maybe... When I fitted my Eberspächer I noticed it was not very difficult to pull the back socket off or away from the rheostat (that is what the rotary knob with light is, not thermostat FWIW).

If fitted through a panel, if you can get to the other side pull the plug off and re-seat it. I say this as you have a dead unit, it has to be supply.

If it is an ex BT 1DLC type, it will have been bought without a main fuse. I fitted mine in-line near the unit, but it is personal choice, my Eberspächer is also connected directly to my battery switch, check the wire has not pulled out the crimp here, maybe!

If you really do not have a main fuse, you should consider fitting one, I have a 35A in line slow blow on mine, this was after advice from an Eberspächer dealer. Though if you have a bigger unit obviously you will need to check for yourself.

Not trying to teach egg sucking BTW, just thinking out loud on you dead heater problem.

Re: Eberspächer - No Power

Don't worry - I never stop learnng!

It's a DL3 - as i found out from the manual on saturday. Spent some time looking for a fuse and did what you recommend - took off the dial knob (rheostat) and the vent/off/heat switch and looked behind - nothing obvious.

I'll keep looking. No! I'll search as hard as I can - it's getting a bit chilly of an evening up here and my wife has (what she says is) low blood pressure and her feet get bl**dy freezing!

Regards

Donald
