My new boat has an eberspacher, much to swmbos delight.

I have never used one.

Any top tips for starting them, maintenance, running them, and any major dont do's?

I can imagine smwbo will be mighty upset if it doesnt work when she is cold :)

Run it regularly for at least 15 minutes, even during what passes for our "summer". Always switch it off properly, so it goes through the shut-down routine, never just turn the batteries off. If they're working OK, they don't need much maintenance, but a clean-out every few years doesn't hurt.

Success is much dependent upon adequate voltage being available to the heater. So, top tip, check all electrical connections and remove any signs of corrosion and ensure best possible connection between terminals. Use a corrosion inhibitor. The power supply wires are connected near the unit with simple male/female spade terminals and they need regualr attention. My heater refused to work earlier this year and all it needed was a terminal clean.

I am sure lots more top tips will follow this one!

Run at least once a month as said. If you have the facility, then run it on paraffin for at least an hour or so each year, it cleans out all the burnt on carbon deposits in the combustion chamber. I run mine permanently on paraffin, now in its eighth year (with me) with no problems.
