I have been calling the variable heat control on the seven day timers ( and the mini controller) a thermostat. Just thinking about it I wonder if it is really some sort of heat setting. I guess that if you wanted constant temperature you would require a thermostat in which case the heat control would be redundant.
Any experience with this guys??
Regards

My heater has a seven day mini timer. The temperature can be raised or lowered by arrow keys. A seperate temperature sensor is fitted - presumably the heater cuts out or modulates when the sensor detects the required temperature is reached.

Well, it does work as a thermostat as it limits output. You can get a remote temp sensor added on which is supposed to work better. You can even have an external (to the vehicle/boat) if you really want to gild the lily!

It's not a thermostat it's a heat output control. A thermostat will control to a preset temperature, the eberspacher controller increases or decreases heat output without regard to temperature.

the control acts in the same manner as the old rotary switch, it has the same 2.2 k variable resistor. i spent quite a bit of time speaking to a nice techy at eberspacher when i was trying to sort out why my d1lcc was not running in high mode, it turned out to be the onboard thermistor on the controller board.
after changing this component i also fitted a 7 day timer with a temp control and the external temperature thermistor. works well now and i can keep the cabin at the temperature i want.

The Eberspacher has a temperature sensor in the cold air inlet that it uses in the absence of an external temperature sensor. If you're recirculating air from the cabin, the internal sensor will do the job. If you're ducting cold air in from the outside, you need cabin air temperature sensor wired into the heater. There isn't a mechanical thermostat in the old fashioned sense; the thermostat function done by the computer in the heater, using temperature info from the internal or external sensors.
