Does a silencer make much of a difference to the roar of the exhaust? No problem when down below but sitting in the cockpit on a still day it is a bit noisy.
Anyone know how much they cost? It must be possible to devise a really effective silencer you could push into the outside of the skin fitting when moored. What about a car exhaust silencer?

I have experimented a little on this subject and you don't need one anywhere near the size of a car silencer.
I was thinking of putting a small second hand scooter type one in. I tried a motorcycle one and this made the exhaust silent at the skin fitting but it is a little bulky and it didn't need to be THAT quite, just quieter than an open exhaust.
I suggest you try a scooter one, this seems to be the best trade off between size and noise.

We enjoy sitting outside as long as possible but it is nice to have a warm cabin to retire to. It is also cosy to sit in the companionway in a flow of warm air.

I may make an air intake silencer as you suggest but most of the noise is from the exhaust so I would like to silence that first.

Re: eberspacher sell them!

Hi Stuart,

does that mean you are going to buy one for yours and give us all a break!

Walked past your stern on Sunday morning as I did my lap of the harbour. Can hear it from 100 yrds away

See you at the weekend
