Playing with Ebers is one of my part time retirement hobbies. At the moment its driving me nuts!!

I have 3 D2 ECUs from Scania trucks and now one from an Iveco. These are all the late type ECUs and look just like the standard Eberspacher model.

The colour coding of the leads is also standard Eberspacher except that these do not have the Brown/white lead used as standard.
Normally this lead is used with the red/slate lead in setting the hrequired heat level when the heaters internal thermostat is in use.
Even without this lead in place I would expect the heater to at least fire up by connecting the red lead to the yellow lead as happens with the ‘normal eberspachers'.

Of couse it could be that non of the leads are a match with the eber ones although the heavy duty red, brown and the green ( pump) leads can be identified by their sizes.

has anyone any ideas concerning what is so speciall about the Scania and Iveco ECUs? Clearly there must be some interaction with the electronics of these trucks but I cant think what it may be.
I have searched the various sites looking for info or wiring diagrams for these instalations but no luck so far!

Dont know if it applies here but much new truck electronics connects to the can bus,as a "security" (we can charge more) feature.

You may be interested or even surprised to learn that there can be up to 30 different ECU part numbers for the same heater, they are designed to work with specific vehicles and this is nothing to do with ill informed and over cynical comments like we can charge more demonstrated conclusively by the fact that all the ECUs are the same price, it is simply to conform to the existing vehicle bus requirements and operations. There are inputs as well as outputs and many heaters will not operate until those peramiters are met, things like ambient temperature, coolant temperature, cab temperature DG discharge conditions and more. There is a company that manufactures a CAN bus signal generator for some Webasto and Eber heaters but the cost is little less than a universal ECU. Look at it this way, would you expect a Mondeo radiator to fit a Fiesta, both are made by the same company, both do the same job, both are of a the same basic design.

Yes David and I've come across many of those especially with water heaters. With air heaters I have ben trying to think hat parameters might be considered important

There will be TRV considerations and integration with the vehicle HV&C even with blown air heaters to make things simple for the user. They are what they are, Iveco, Mann and Volvo et al heaters, not universal marine or RV units. With the old BT and welfare cabin units it was very simple as they just had time run limitations even though they were still universal ECUs, that was easy to overcome but vehicle specific units are an entirely different kettle of fish.

Thanks most useful post, as I was under the impression the alterations for specific vehicles was for cash reasons rather than valid ones.
