Much better easier and cheaper to use ordinary rockwool loft insulation wrapped round the ducting then covered with polythene and held with cable ties. Just ensure the polythene is kept well away from the ducting by the rockwool.
This is basically what Ardic used to use in a made up form.
Makes a huge difference to heater performance by not wasting heat behind panels and inside lockers!
Probably is a little big, I think my main ducting is 90mm, though the ducting may be 100mm which should make it about right.
I'm only planning on using this where the ducting runs under the aft cabin and behind panels so it doesn't matter if it looks a bit oversize. Where the ducting is semi on-show, through usable locker space, I'll use the normal thinsulate stuff.
Might be cheaper but the spaces where the ducting runs don't really allow the room to gain sufficent access to wrap easily or neatly. I'm hoping with the suggested insulation I'd be able to disconnect one end of the tube and slide it down till it meets the next bulkhead and then re-connect.
Hoping it will make a difference, at present the space behind the fridge gets real warm making it work harder than necessary.
There is no doubt it will be well worth the effort - however you finally do it!
OF course if you have access to both ends of the ducting you could draw it all out, wrap it, then reinsert it!
I've no doubt that someone sells pre insulated ducting for non boaty purposes at a fraction of the cost, if only we could find it!
