My heater coughed and spluttered the other weekend. I am pretty sure it is coked up and needs cleaning. I do not have any specific maintenance/repair instructions for this model and they don't seem to be available on the 'net. Does anyone have any tips? What fluid should I use to clean the heat exchanger etc?

Exploded drawing...

There's an exploded drawing here, which should help in dismantling and reassembling. When I serviced my D3L, I seem to remember it was possible to gently scrape most of the carbon off. It's just about a DIY job, if you're fairly practical. However, I managed to drop mine during reassembly, and smashed one of the plastic end mouldings!

To see whether you need to de-coke do this.. Remove the glow plug cover. remove glow plug. look into the hole. there is a fine mesh in there. if this is clogged up with carbon you may be able to just change the mesh and all will be ok. If not you need to decoke. Be warned on the D5LC you will need a new body gasket when you re-assemble. I repair these units as part of my work (not in the UK). Unless you have to strip it down DON'T. Most of the repairs I have to do with Eberspacher heaters are "owner induced faults" /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
Edit. The item is no 29 on the parts list " Plug Strainer"
