Hello boat people's,

I am having a problem with my eberspacher.

I tested a lot but can't find out Wat the problem is.

- I put a new overheat sensor in (this one had no resistance anymore)
- enough diesel
- big 12v battery on charger.
- inlet/outlet looks not disturbed.

I have a oldscool termostate which only goes on max power. (as long as I have it)

It runned perfect for 1 year.

But since a view days it run in the morning for about 1 hour and make a blower drop sound and turns of, then after 5 min I turn it on again for 30min. And then every time about 3min.

The blower variates a lot in rpm. But not logicly. And just before it stops I hear some kind of power sound out of the circuit board/blower 2 times in about 10 sec and shut down. When that sounds happens the voltage to the motor drops to 8volt.

Maybe the circuit board? But Al the solder points look very good.

The ecu and relais were checked by the dealer

I also checked the earth cable but that looks good.

Does any one knows what I could do more?

Many thanks,

Albart

I would suggest that you examine the heater’s fuse holder very carefully. I found that the Eberspacher fuse holder would relax its grip on the fuse, allowing arcing. Since replacing it with a better quality fuse and fuse holder my heater, which exhibited similar symptoms to those that you’re experiencing, now starts up first time. Eberspachers would seem to be very sensitive to supply voltage.

Heey Mike, Thankyou!

It already have an upgrades fuse box. I think. Atleast not original.

I took it apart and made the clamps much tighter, so more pressure to the fuse. Its running again. Let's see if this was the problem. 🤞🏼🙃

I also wil order higher quality fuses. Mine are new though.

Where are you reading the 8 volts from ? If it is at the battery, there is an issue with the battery. If these detect any less than a given voltage available (somewhere about 11-12v or close...cant exactly remember but its certainly double figures for sure), they will shut down.

Heey Qbhoy,

Thankyou for your replie.

My battery is always above 12,5v due to my charger. So I am afraid that isn't it.

I meant the motor cable. (black + brown -) are 8v when that sound ocures.

Unfortunately the fuse adjustment didn't solve the problem.

So if someone maybe have some options, I am looking forward to it. :)

Heey Mikegunn,

Thankyou. I will check that tomorrow.
It sounds like a bad conection somewere at the motor/Circutboard.

But i cant find it, i also put an extra earth cable frome the motor - (brown cable) to the boat hull.

No worries. Just thought I’d add that maybe even with the charger on the battery, if the battery isn’t up to much, there may still be a situation where adequate volts and current can’t be supplied, when the heater is drawing or demanding a serious load.
May not be the situation here, but worth noting perhaps.
All the best

Check the very small filter that will be in diesel supply where it joins heater, it is literally inside the micro copper pipe, clean it and try again, I had a similar issue and cleaning the filter solved it

... and the purpose is to atomize the fuel before it hits the hot glowplug (thereby making it willing to búrn).

Heey Thankyou al guys,

Ik tested the voltage but its al the time above 12,3volts.

I also checked the smal dieselfilter and cleared it.

I called a dealer, and they say it sounds like the fan motor brushes could be at its end.

Does annyone has experience with that? And how can i check that without taking everything appart.
Taking it appart seems to be a pain in the as with the motor fan etc.

Looking forward to anyone's reply :)

Don’t know anyone else locally that has an Eberspacher unit ? One with the small control unit (can’t remember exactly what the controller is called, but fairly numerously fitted to lots of units like D2’s etc etc. . Might be something like an 801 model) that also has the diagnostic code read out and reset ability ? If so, you can usually and simply plug this into where your current controller does…it will show the fault code on it and you can also reset (something that years ago required a special intervention to achieve) some codes using this too. Not something that some other or older controllers can do. The larger most common kind of dual section (maybe a 701) can do…as far as I know.
