Hi Guys
I have an eber d4 with the digital gauge which you push the button and it comes on for a pre programmed hour,,,,problem is everything seems to fire up ok,the fuel pumps working ect,but the heat out of it is rubbish, and the actual airflow out of the air ducts is very poor as well with just a faint blow of barely warm air, even out of the first outlet it comes to,,i have changed the glow pin and gauze,,,but im at a loss,i even got the eber man to put his computer on it and he said there were no faults, but it has to be,,its rubbish:) any sudgestions greatfully received?? Pete

Does it have a thermostat connected or any control for adjusting the output?

It sounds as though it is on the low heat setting - this reduces the fan speed and the burn rate which appear to be your symptoms. The question is - why?

well it was fitted to the boat new in 2001,,and i thought i remembered it working well on the day i bouht the boat in 2006,but i cant remember to be honest,as far as i can remember its allways been rubbish,,,next time i go down il try taking the pipe off the hot air exit,,if its supposed to push hot air 38 feet it shuld be red hot at the source i should imagine,,,i think the thermostat heat setting is on the digital readout, and im pretty sure the little triangles at the bottom of the display get bigger as you set it to how you want it,and im also pretty sure its fully turned up,,but your right,it does seem like its on a low setting,,,

Hi, Sounds like the fuel pump filter needs changing. I had this problem myself. Sometimes you can get away with cleaning it although it's not recommended. Basically unable to get enough fuel though to use the higher settings. I hope this helps.

Fan speed is controlled by the 'control unit' dependent on thermostat/controller setting but is also reliant on correct flame detection. There needs to be a good burn before the fan will fully speed up.

I am intrigued.. does the fan appear to not fully speed up? Does it run up quick and then slow down?... and if left, will the heater continue to work, albeit at a slow speed for the full hour or does it shut down and go quiet prematurely?

when our did similar D5LC it was the small ciruit board above the inlet which was at fault a new circuit board solved the problem... it controls the fan speed.

It should run at full power for several minutes following switch-on, even if the thermostat is at a low setting.

Lots of good sudgestions here chaps,,il try cleaning or replacing the fuel pump filter first,im guessing that its part of the onion shaped pump,am i guessing right andy? As for your question Andy it appears to start up as it should,i.e warms itself up for a minute or two,,and then sounds like its up to full power, plenty of exhaust noise ect,,just bugger all heat or force to the warm air coming out of the outlet,,,Aidy, your sudgestion sounds like the most expensive one so i will try that one last:) Just going back to the fuel filter for a moment,i havnt seen any fuel filters advertised for a d4,,is it part of the pump or something??

The fuel filter is built in to the lower connector on the pump i.e. the inlet.

Don't whatever you do adjust (or turn in any way) the nuts at the top of the pump. They are factory set to adjust fuel flow....

If you're not sure on the nut then check. The filter is hidden away and sometimes gets stuck up inside the pump. It's rather a crude metal sieve style filter that just stops big bits getting through so I would not expect it to be blocked..

You can just see it (part #23) on the diagram here..

Hi Martin,,the heater keeps blowing for the whole hour, just hardly any force behind it,,would the filter be in the same place on a d4,as i notice the diagram was for a d2,,,i had some sugary filters on my engine a year or 2 ago,so i might have had a bit of the fuel bug,so wondering if maybe the filter is clogged from that?!!

That link above still takes me to a D4 spares diagram. And yes - the filter is within the lower connector on the pump.

With respect to low output.. as others have said.. perhaps the outlet pipes are blocked/crushed in some way... You would prove this by running up the unit with the outlet hoses removed - although I'm not sure how hot it would get.. 'very' I would expect. Perhaps there is a slight blockage in the inlet althouth if this were the case I would have thought the unit would overheat and power off...

If the burn was not sufficient I would expect the unit to switch off and if the fan was not spinning up to the required speed the controller would detect this and also switch off the unit. (Fan RPM is monitored by the control unit).

My mistake, the diagram is for a D4,,yes its a wierd one,the first outlet is only about 6 or 7 feet away,,and all the more wierd that everything seems to be working fine, doesnt shut down or anything ect,,il have another check on things next time i go down and let you know what i can see
