Eberspacher D2 problems.....

Hi, eventually got round to replacing my old Ardic heater with an ex BT Eber D2. Everything was going well, all fitted and running, until it turned itself off...
I had made a bit of a balls up and noticed that the fuel pipe was routed incorrecly resulting in excess fuel (I think this was the problem as there was diesel in the exhaust). After I put everything right the unit refused to start for around 20 hours, symptons being that the fan started, speeded up then turned off after approx 6 seconds. Thinking I'd "broke it" I tried to start it again this afternoon and it fired up and ran fine so feeling confident I left it running for 30 minutes, stopped it and tried to restart it only to have the same problem again
Any suggestions welcome, I don't have the diagnostic timer so don't have any fault codes etc.

Sounds like a discharged battery, I have a tester and in Pwllheli next weekend

Unfortunately the battery was being charged at the time
I didn't have my meter with me today so couldn't check the voltage but maybe I have a duff connection somewhere - it gives me hope that it does fire up occasionally!

Update - tried the heater again this weekend and nothing, just a click from the ECU
Batteries fine, plenty of volts at the heater. I'm a bit confused as to why it worked last week (sort of...) and after being left for a few days with no power to it I get this problem.
Question to all the Eber experts, does this sound like the ECU needs to be unlocked?

The D2 doesnt lock up, I dont understand the "excess diesel" bit, can you explain more?

During one of the start attempts last week I noticed a drip of derv from the exhaust - I undid the exhaust and found a small amount of fuel there. I can only think the fuel had gravity fed into the heater. Note to self, must read the instructions.....
I'm just stumped as to what the problem is as the heater did fire up last week. All connections checked and OK, I disconnected the 7 day timer (ex BT job) and tried to start it using the yellow wire to live but still nothing

Probably the fuel had come from the non starts, BUT if it had attempted to start it would have burned the fuel off, if it whirred and ticked the pump and didnt smoke then it points to the glow plug. I have a spare eber with a duff ecu, the glow plug etc is ok, if you want to get the unit to me in Pwllheli I can take it home, check it out and get it back to you, (or you come thru Llangollen) I would need it all, controller, pump etc. It will cost you a lot less beer tokens than the official eber man!
