I have a D2 on board running one outlet and whilst it keeps the main cabin warm I am wondering about buying a second hand D3 for that bit more ooomph, and maybe run a second outlet too.

Is there a particular model year onwards I need - as this will be a second hand job??

Can I just swap the D2 for a D3 or do I need a "D3" fuel pump, wiring loom, room thermostat etc (I have the "new" digital timer/diagnostic).

Cheers
Stef

From the top of my head the D2 pump is ok for the D4 and I suspect the D3. The wiring and therm should also be the same but if you are buying second hand then the heater you get may have been configured for a different set up regarding timers and switches. You may have to reconfigure some wiring from the 16 pin disconnect block on the short tail from the eber.
D2s are 10 a penny ( well ok not quite!!) on ebay as they come from Bt and other vans D3s are much rarer and more expensive or ( worse) have come from boats and have seen heavy use.
Good luck in your search and fitting
