Hi,

I need about 4m ducting for my airtronic D2 eberspacher heater. I also need an exhaust outlet and a mounting bracket. I can probably make the mounting bracket using my own imagination, but any suggestions about the other? Cheap as possible!

Many thanks,

Scott.

You should try industrial rubber merchants for cheap supplies. My engine exhaust hose came from one and was less than half the best online price. If they don't sell the ducting you require then they'll certainly be able to point you in the right direction.

Good Luck, wish mine had heating!

Cheapest exhaust outlet I've seen recently is on Ebay - see here - about a quarter of the Eberspacher price! You could make a bracket, but the same Ebay supplier has a cheap SS one. For ducting, don't be tempted to use sub-standard stuff, and don't use rubber pipe as someone has suggested! Again, Ebay used to be a source of lower-priced ducting, but I haven't seen any lately, but maybe the supplier already mentioned might have some.

There is a seller on ebay that sell this kind of gear, usually at least half the price of the eberpacher parts. Bought loads of stuff for my heater and was very pleased with the items. All high quality, not the cheap rubbish you might expect!

Search for eberspacher, and the seller sell it all with 'buy it now' so you dont have to go through an auction.

The skin fitting was about 45 quid from memory. If theres not things you want, you can contact the seller and he could supply it. I think they are called Eberblasto - they are based on the oulton broad i think.

I have no relation to the seller etc etc.

After recommendations from this forum, I used eBay for lots of my bits. 24mm exhaust outlets (I assume you mean the skin fitting) and stainless mounting brackets are both available at the moment. I've used the supplier there of these with no problems (but not for the items above). Do a search for Eberspacher.

I sourced 60mm ducting from a caravan shop - it was still quite expensive but not Eber prices. Lagged with some hot water cylinder jacket (a tip from a poster here if I remember correctly) it's working very well so far.

Industrial rubber merchants don't just sell rubber! Obviously, rubber should never be used for heater ducting - I'd imagine that it's some form of temperature treated plastic & in my experience, some industrial rubber merchants stock it. I Didn't write my previous post very well!! - Sorry!

[/ QUOTE ]Do NOT use rubber hose for the eber exhaust under any circumstances unless you are suicidal and/or want to set fire to your boat.

For the hot air duct I used aluminium flexi duct as sold by motor factors as "emission control ducting" - very flexible and stretchy as it is concertinaed. Needs insulating though but mineral wool does a fantastic job and can be wrapped with duct tape after installation to produce a neat job.

Exhaust ducting - try motor factors or HGV breakers or Wabasto. If you can find whoever services diesel heaters in general in your area they often have odd lengths lying around. Combustion air inlet can be rubber hose but ensure you get the correct ID and length.

Hi, What I'm really after is just information about were I can get 60mm ducting, AS CHEAP AS POSSIBLE and any suggestions for a skin fitting outlet for the exhaust. I know they do them on ebay, but I was wondering if anywhere was cheaper?

Thanks everyone so far.

Scott.

Making your own skin fitting is the cheapest way...
Take a piece of 22 or 24mm OD ss tube about 100mm long (OD to suite your exhaust) - lets say 24mm OD for this example - then take a piece of 30mm ID ss tube about 70mm long and slide the 24mm tube inside the 30mm tube. now take a length of 3mm ss rod and bend it into a circle 24mm id and slip this over the 24mm tube and drive it down to the 30mm tube and just inside it. Temporarily fix three short pieces of 3 mm rod between the two tubes at the other end to keep the 24 mm tube central inside the 30mm tube and then TIG weld around the opposite end of the 30mm tube where the circle of 3mm rod was fixed, Also weld the circle of rod to the 24mm tube.
Take a piece of 3mm ss plate approx 70mm dia and cut an ellipse out of the center to allow the 30mm id tube to pass through at approx a 15° angle. Mark round the 30mm id tube, remove the three temporary pieces of rod and cut off at 15°. refit the tubes into the plate and weld the 30mm id tube to the plate - one skin fitting....... Drill fixing holes, fettle and polish to your heart's desire - one skin fitting. Time - last one took me about 1½ hours start to finish and about £5 in scrap ss from my local ss shoppe.

Do remember the exhaust should point downwards at about 15° as it exits the hull.

and of course we have a local ss shoppe handy at the end of the road!!
have 2 metres of 25mm id flexible s/s hose same as i used for my eber installation plus 2 metres of alu 50mm hose ditto £30 for the lot plus postage
stu

The majority of folk will have if they would bother to look - there are so many small fabricators about who will have cuttings of ss and are willing of part with them for a few beer tokens.
