Hi everyone. Will the blower motor from the 5Kw Chinese units work as a direct replacement for the Eberspacher Airtronic D4? My motor is shot and a friend has a spare 5Kw.... or do I just go and buy a genuine blower motor from Eberspacher? It's not a cost thing, it's a time crucial thing... I could have the blower motor replaced this evening if I can take one from the 5Kw unit.

I have asked on various Facebook groups also but maybe someone here has the answer!

Chum of mine in the trade purchased a russiaspacher in order to discover if it could be source of cheap new spares for the Eber.
His observations were that internal components were slightly different and would it require additional work to get to use as spares.

How much is a new motor for that old D4 ................Cheaper to replace with brand new complete new Chinaspacher (or two) , which uses a more efficient and quieter ? brushless motor

Yup that is the way to go. If you have to remove the unit to put the blower in just swap over the unit

OK so a bit of messing about....

The Chinese heaters use soft 'paper' gaskets as opposed to much tougher plastic/rubber Eber gaskets
The Chinese heaters use thinner gauge wire
The Chinese heaters use cheaper, much more fragile connectors / plugs
The Chinese ECU is every so slightly different shaped to the Eber. The ECU is mounted on top of the blower motor, so when you fit a Chinese blower motor, the ECU won't fit snugly on (although this can be resolved by trimming some of the plastic on the Eber ECU).

The original Eber D4 use 9v motors, the Chinese use 12v motors. That said, replacement Eber heaters appear to use 12v motors from research.
The rotation of the motor on the Eber is the opposite direction of the Chinese.

As I had nothing to lose, I reversed the polarity on the Chinese motor, spliced the connections (as different connectors). The unit fired up but kept shutting down. I suspect the motor was not getting up to speed as it was 9v vs 12v.

Conclusion? My Eber D4 was 19 years old.... I replaced the whole unit. Wasn't worth faffing about with. Replaced with a brand new unit bolt-in, re-using all other items.... the main thing here was the 701 controller.... no way was I interested in running a new cable half the length of the boat. I have the old one for spares. We are in Ireland, a working heater is a 'must', IMHO. You'll quickly forget about the cost knowing that the heater works.
