My eberspacher 3dl not 3dlc or3dlc compact has a asbestos like lining in the combustion chamber this has disintergrated. apparently this is not a spare part. Has anyone had this problem and how did you solve it? Perhaps there is a supplier of heat resistant material. (it is only a flat strip folded round the inside of the heat exchanger) Any help appreciated as I would hate to scrap it.
thanks

This is called the WICK, and can be got at Colchester Fuel Injection Ltd, the only place I could find one a few months ago.
This is imperative to the correct cumbution.
There are some small metal tangs holding it in place, be very careful not to break the off when bending them out to get the wick out, just bend then a very little bit.
I would advice you to order a set of 2 felt rings too which sit in the reccess where the rotor part joins to the combustion chamber.
Pm me with email for some pics which I took of the process.
Cheers, C_W.

Excellent thanks for that I have the details of Colchester fuel injection I will add the felt rings to my list. I did not have to bend the tabs, the wick fell out in bits. Probably why I have difficulty getting the heater to start. This after paying two "experts" to get the thing running. I have sent you a PM

Many thanks
Paul

Could you please send pictures of your 3DL repairs,I will need to replace the Wick if I can get the control Box repaired for a reasonable price.Have you any contacts for a repairer. The cost of a new one is 283 pounds,PT 25.1688.50.00.05 Thanks

Where are you located?
You will struggle to get the control box repaired and will probably have to renew it, you should be able to get a used one, but make sure the part/version no is the exact same as they are matched to the heater unit build version number.
Try Colchester Fuel Injection ltd for a used one, if you can, ask for 'Rae' he is an expert on the D3L.
BTW, the D3L is the diesel version and the B3L is the petrol version.
Quote the version no on the model plate when ordering spares.
Colchester's no is; 01206862049
If your control box version number is as you say, your heater unit version must be; 25-1738. pm me your email add and I will send you the pics.
If you are in the Clyde area I will give you some names where you might, or might not get a used unit.
