After last week's post about the unit cutting out, I filled up with diesel and the unit started first time. I have never had any problems with it and it is now 3 years old. Should I be servicing the unit, or wait until it packs up, or does it even need servicing yet?
We use the oat all year round and use the heating most weeknds in the winter.

Servicing is best confined to checking all wiring is clean and connections are tight, all clips on fuel lines and the lines themselves in good order and secure, likewise for heat ducting pipes and MOST importantly exhaust tubing and fittings are sound and have no leaks. Filter change (if fitted, if not fit one) every year or so.
Decokes and other stuff are probably best left until it starts to show syptoms.
A hoover round and a clean of the combustion intake filter / silencer is a good idea too.

We had our last boat for five years and experience showed that if we wanted the heater to be reliable we had it serviced at about yearly intervals. In the begining we didnt know this so ran it untill it simply stopped working which was about two and a half years. First signs were smoke on start up and a diesel smell. After that we had it regularly serviced cos for sure it will pack up at the most inconvenient time. We service the home boiler every year so now do the same on the boat and know its going to be reliable. It may do eighteen months or even two years but I dont want the hassle of the dam thing failing when we are lined up for a cosy long winter weekend!!

I’m having problems to, I thought I’d solved it the other day, I gave the pump a tweak and twist after trying to start it six times and it started and ran perfectly for an hour, unfortunately that was in the nice hot day, in the night when we needed it, it wouldn’t start, plenty of fuel good batteries Fuel looks to be flowing ok through the transparent feed pipe there are quite a few small bubbles in it though, you hear the pump thumping, the fan or what ever it is starts going, warm air starts blowing then the pump stops thumping and the fan dies out. Any ideas !!
