When the Eberspacher is first turned on, the fan kicks in and at this time of highest draw the solenoid attached to our battery selector switch starts to click. This happened before and was caused by a poor connection at the eber connection to the busbar terminals.

I have checked the connection and they seem fine, the one that may still be causing a problem requires a ring terminal with an 8mm internal diameter.

Could resistance be causing this problem?

Is the Eber not connected directly to the battery terminals?

What does the "solenoid" do?

duh! Well OBVIOUSLY, this is not really my question, but out of the mouth of HWMO - aka- Chief SHip's Engineeer. So I will have to ask him later and reply tomorrow! :-) Still trying to get him to register as a user in his own name...

OK sensible questions-
a. as post 3, describe the solenoid, is it a relay/ solenoid operating a circuit breaker/ got small fuel pipes running to it/ can you post a picture if in doubt.
b. clicking solenoids can indeed be down to a bad connection (resistance as you suspect)/ loose or corroded terminal/ flat batteries /faulty electronics/ meant be be clicking/ lots of other possibilities
c. is the battery switch a main on/off switch for the supply or a switch to parallel the battery banks- does everything else connected downstream of it flash on/off in sympathy?

Hmmm, I have some thoughts

I'll be down in Limehouse at some point between now and Sunday (hopefully Sunday), if you're about I'll have a shufty

Cheers everyone. The below decks engineer is out playing the ukelele at the moment so we all await the update.

FWIW it's not he fuel pump. It's MUCH louder than that and 'clicking' is the word Marc uses... I prefer to say it's a clunking clattering noise that makes you say "oooh, THAT doesn't sound right!" Lasts a few seconds.

He will change his tune when he gets home :encouragement:
