Can anyone advise here?

I have just noticed that a small area of transom where the eber exhaust and skin fitting is mounted is blackening slightly on the inside, but not showing through to the outside. It is only occurring above the skin fitting, not below it.

Should I be worried about this? Can GRP burn like this or is it fairly resistant?

A slightly worried Pops.

It is all "proper" stuff, installed by a so-called professional and has been running for 2 years without setting fire to my boat, but I will take a much closer look tomorrow.

Thank you

Pops,

If its soot then there is a leak, Co etc leaking, if it is discolouration then it is heat transfer. Either prob wants sorting, Magnacarta gave some sound advice. wotever, dont lose any kip over it, can all be sorted,
tomorrow`s another day.

I don't think GRP will burn unless it is subject to a flame. If you lag the exhaust it means the exit gasses will be hotter. I have a 2m metre unlagged exhaust so some of the heat from the exhaust radiates into the boat. Been OK for me for the last 5 years.

Ta. I might consider removing some of the lagging, except at the exit, since the pipe doesn't touch much else except the heater and the exit fitting.

Whoever it was mentioning the CO leak possibility, thanks for that, not considered it and now will check even quicker tomorrow. We do have CO doodahs all over the boat, so far none of them has ever gorn orff, so probably not a CO leak.

Thanks all as usual

Pops
