There's a guy hijacking accounts and offering new Raymarine C120 units at £300 on one day listings. A couple of days ago there was a similar listing at 500 Euros. Just reported latest offerings to ebay but he seems to be popping up daily under different accounts.
Most of us are aware of these scams but figured I'd post to warn any newcomers to the forum.

As an aside he's also 'selling' cheap Alienware' laptops. I've emailed him asking for a deal on 10 /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

eBay is rife with fraud sales and scammers. If you want to email eBay's head honcho in charge of fraud direct about your findings then his public email address is griff@ebay.com

The UK March PC Format magazine contains a 3 page spread on eBay fraud titled "Going, going, gone...". It basically questions how safe it really is and looks at the types of scams now occurring.

I will not buy without paypal now.

A few months back I actually got a refund from paypal as I did not hear anything from the 'company' for three weeks, I had kept all my emails and was able to show that the given telephone number was a dead line.

Paypal took 4 days and returned in my favour dropping the £30 back into my account. Had I paid by cheque or using the companies online charging I would have been out by £30.

This was not Ebay, paypal is available to non ebay traders as well, but I thought I would mention it as pp is pretty much Ebay exclusive.

Ebay owns PayPal but is growing as a payment option throughout the net. It is very easy to integrate PayPal into your website and even provides a shopping cart. Set it up on my wife's site very quickly.

Interesting...........

Few details removed but here's a couple of emails........ /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Hi John

What a coincidence, as I only live 10 minutes from Thamesmead in Bexleyheath. I'm at home all day tomorrow and can pop down to see you and have a look at the laptops. Let me know what time is convenient and give me your phone number so I can give you a call when I'm on my way.

Regards Colin

Re: Interesting...........

eBay banned requesting payment by Western Union in mid-January 2006 but their enforcement of the new policy is totally non-effective. It would be so easy to implement but eBay take their usual stance of burying their head in the sand. They totally ignore what should be their duty of care to peeps using their site (using the argument that they are only facillitating the sale and purchase of items).

I've had an email from Griff (hope he will be reading this) saying it is more effective to advise their "security centre" of problems rather than him.

If you want to report what you think might be fraud then you are better off reporting it to fraudtracking.com as they pass information on to eBay and keep records, and publish their findings; whereas eBay would rather not have people know the extent of fraud, and actually deny the volume of fraud taking place on eBay.

If you search (you will have to be quick) eBay for Raymarine 120 then the 6 items requesting payment in Aus dollars are scammers. One of these is item no 4444187254

Re: Interesting...........

Very simple.

If anyone ever requests payment for anything by Western Union assume a scam and move on.

This is apparently becoming an issue for Western Union as well, they don't like being seen as a scammers den.
