Very Soni Levi

Almost a direct sistership to the beautiful Fujiyama that hangs about in the med (Fujiyama is googlable). Here's a pic of her I took off Cap Ferrat this summer

Beautiful boat but don't think much of the fender work!

Re: ebay project boat, quite huntsman like don\'t u think?

Yep. Here she was again 3 days later, this time anchored in rade de villefranche, with the same manksville fenderage. Mind you, lots of frecnh and italians leave fenders out. Neat and tidiness is perhaps a UK thing?

Re: ebay project boat, quite huntsman like don\'t u think?

There may well be a few sharp intakes of breath...I think the Levi Hulls might be better ride than the Hunt/Burnard Fairey hulls.

Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners.....

Re: ebay project boat, quite huntsman like don\'t u think?

ooh, thanks, great video! I can confirm she sounds exactly like that :-)

Poster scarron on here first recognised her when I posted some pics back in August. He had some more background info on here. There is much written about her on the www. Lovely machine

Re: ebay project boat, quite huntsman like don\'t u think?

Fantastic looking boat in my view and i hope someone is brave enough to buy the Ebay project, especially as the owner is threatening to make a bonfie of her if not sold.

Re: ebay project boat, quite huntsman like don\'t u think?

Oh go on...i'll share the cost of the winning bid... /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Re: ebay project boat, quite huntsman like don\'t u think?

Not sure that Renato Levi would be very impressed at the accusation of copying Faireys, good as the Faireys are!!!

Re: ebay project boat, quite huntsman like don\'t u think?

Oooh Ben how could you say that.....

You'll never be able to show your face at the Fairey Owners Club again. If you thought things had got heated there recently - well now you have really started something :-)

As for which hull rides better, I feel a comprehensive back to back comparison may be necessary to provide empirical results.

Re: ebay project boat, quite huntsman like don\'t u think?

Right then...

I'm off all over Christmas, assuming Playtime is still in the water we'll have to have a day out and swap over.

Update on Engineless Namless Levi Settimo Velo

I have just acquired this project, which I hope to restore over the winter. She was also mentioned in a previous thread back in 2004 http://www.ybw.com/forums/showthread.php?t=46115&highlight=settimo+velo

If you read these threads you'll know as much about the boat as I do!

If anyone has any additional history then I would be most interested to hear from them. Unlike most of the production boats she was fitted with 2 x 220hp BPM Oceanics into v drives, and the Levi designed rudders are still with the boat. Engines are a big decision. I am tempted to forget the v drive idea and fit 2 x Mercruisers into outdrives, as per most of the production boats, unless she has some sort of racing history that makes her a bit special and justifies the cost of renovating the original bronze rudders.

Unfortunately, her name and builders plate are both missing so I don't have much of a starrting point for research, unless anyone out there knows more of her history?

Jolly good that she's found a home.

I think there is another thread about this boat too, one that I started when she went up for sale recently.

I'd say that to maintain the character of the boat you really must keep the V drive set up.

Le Scarron will know more.

I'm waiting to hear from Levi Boats having requested access to some of the original drawings / specifications for the Settimo Velo. I think that the deck & coachroof beams & carlines may have been messed about / be a bit on the light side for offshore. I know, from Dhows and Deltas, that Levi specified Spruce for Surfury but some of the carlines alongside the coachroof look just like pine. I suspect a DIY bodge up at some point in her history! This will all have to put right and I suspect that I'll end up giving her a new deck.
