Watching this item on ebay hoping to get it cheaper than a new one (it is an ex-demo unit after all). damn thing went for £141. Brand new and full warranty they are only £132 web page. What is the point?

The buyer was probably guaging his bid against RRP instead of against market value. Happens all the time and is great for sellers. Don't worry though, there's bound to be another one along sometime.

For ages there has been a guy selling solar powered trickle chargers for around £25, they are £10 in Maplin.

Well, the clues are right there if one cares to look!

1) Is the RRP that is quoted for real? Easy to confirm.
2) More subtle is the second clue. Right down the left hand side of the seller's page is a baited hook..... /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I was tempted too, but not at that price for an ex-demo.

Sellers often quote RRPs that are pure fantasy. If you take the trouble to research your purchases that immediately becomes obvious. You have to ask yourself - if the seller is prepared to tell such a transparent lie, what else isn't he telling the truth about?

It's not just on Ebay they use fantasyRRP. This has been made "acceptable practise" by lots of retail companies. You may even find the RRP could be right for the Nasa gear. Just because nobody pays it doesn't mean it's not right!

Just checked Force 4 website, it says rrp £199!!!! They are all at it!!

I think the same seller has been listing "ex-demo" Clipper GPS repeaters.
For some months I have been watching them hoping for a bargain... but they all go for not much more than I can buy a new one with PP still to be added.

Summingk fishy goin on.

On the other hand I bought a Clipper depth sounder from them at £96 total cost and it's £110.95 on your site PLUS £6.50 postage.

Another eBay bargain Here (not entirely clothed)

I though I might avoid that sort of thing outside of the lounge, but here I am again, having to look at your pictures of scantily clad women! Oh the shame of it! /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Thanks! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I bought two items from the seller at good prices, and have had no problems. I may be wrong, but I believe that the seller is either a director of NASA, or is related to a director, and that they are using ebay to dispose of stuff they wouldn't pass to a shop. Certainly the two items I bought were fine, and showed no signs of being used.

As always with ebay, you have to bide your time, and pounce to get a bargain.

No doubt true, but on this ocassion 199 is the RRP for a duet and 169 is a common street price.

See, I am being good and ignoring LS's dodgy link. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I have a friend who had a friend who was allegedly advertising some kind of oriental water fountian for 4 x the ££ you could by it from woolworths. The best bit was he sold a lot of them. And even better was that he was charging £10 delivery, ordering them online from woolworths and getting them delivered direct to his customers. And the bestest bestest bit is that woolworths delivery was foc.

Not sure if it's true but I was told it was??

Nobody has yet mentioned VAT. If I'm buying off a private seller then I don't expect to pay the VAT element. The other thing that pi$$es me off is inflated P&P ; see BT 1055's, so a USB wifi stick is almost a tenner P&P!!

[/ QUOTE ]A lot of sellers inflate postage as a means of reducing sale fees. You just allow for it in the price you bid.
