Ebarpacher, Mikuni or Webasto?

Also check such things as ducting type/size; as running the ducting is likely to be one of the hardest jobs. I think you'll find that Mikuni uses the smallest diameter.

Aah, but smaller the duct the more the resistance and less air... so less heat for a given temperature. The fans are tiny ,so bigger duct probably better. No experience of boat heating ,just a ductwork man!

Confused? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Don't forget Wallas. I've been very pleased with my 3kw heater over the past three seasons. Totally reliable and economic in fuel and battery power terms. Kurunda (sp?) marine are agents.

Reading the endless 'Problem with my eberwhotsit...' posts on the forums every autumn / spring would tend to suggest you are thinking in the right direction! We have Webasto and (so far) it has fired up and run smoothly each and every time its been called upon. When it comes to heating I dont think you can ask for much more!

Mikuni use lots of amps. Not much between Webasto and Eberspacher IMO. I bought an Eber 'cos Krueger the local supplier tailored the package to suit my installation and at a very good price.

Not a lot to choose between them...

There's probably not a lot to choose between them, as long as you remember that correct installation is essential if they're ever to work satisfactorily. Don't be put off by the many posts about Eberspachers - lots of people buy these cheaply secondhand (often ex-BT vans), don't install them properly, then wonder why they don't work reliably.

I've had good service from Eberspachers; current one is 16 years old, factory-fitted when boat was new, still going strong. Modern heaters (of all makes) may have suffered from "value engineering" though compared with older models!

Have a Webasto 3500 for 8 years; its been totally reliable. Its in the engine room and is almost silent. Had an Eber on previous boat, it was hard to start without engine running and very noisy. It waqs a DL1 I think and Its possible the current models are better.

... and then there are water heaters made by the same peeps. Much easier to run plastic water pipes, gives hot water without running the engine but adds weight and another source for water in the bilges.
Fitted a Mikuni water heater to a Westerley Fulmar and it did its job though a little sensitive on start-up volts.

I agree with John - I have had a wallas heater for 5 years - never failed. Its very quiet, there is no clicking fuel pump and is user (and simple) servicable (apart from the electronics) I have the 4kw model which has 2 outlets of about 70 mm dia.

So if you've had the Webasto for 8yrs, how old was the Eber?!!!!

I used to have a Vauxhall Victor that was a sod to start, but hey ho, things move on! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
