A friend is taking daughter down there to start a new job and wants to take her out for a meal. I've not visited in years. Any suggestions?
The requirements are:

"Not stuffy posh, but good quality and with decent fish & vegetarian options. Price around £20 - £30 a head"

I was there 3 weeks ago. 3 of us had a decent size pub meal in the Kings Arms on Trinity Street, just before the very famous chippy everyone seemed to bang on about.

Good size portion of pub food in a pub that hadn't been gasto pubbed yet. Was busy with a mix of locals and yotties which seemed a good sign.

Not an altogether helpful recommendation, but I'd have to say that your friend should avoid Perry's on the town quay, used to be quite good but after the most recent change of ownership it all seems to have gone wrong.

Rickp (latterly of this parish, but now rarely spotted) always used to recommend Floods, but we've never made it there.

We have just came back from weymouth last week after a 4 day break, everything overpriced except the pound shop.;)

Had very poor meal at the fish and chip shop near the town bridge just in the alley way(near bus stop) Will not go back there again, its a shame because the owners has one of the large posh motor cruiser in the harbour so you would think a decent meal on plate for all fellow boaters, fish no bigger than a small roll and chips that could bend nearly 90deg with out snapping, rubbish rubbish:(:(

We did hear that the Pub/restaurant opposite the harbour master office served a good meal. and priced ok, food looked excellent what was being served when we were having a drink in there.

Other than that we cooked our own food.
