If you're down that way the RFYC is worth a visit for great food, beer and a friendly atmosphere, Polperro on the other hand is a bit noisy on the bouys at the moment as they are grit blasting the harbour storm gate! only at low tides but it's pretty close to the harbour end bouys, so it's not a quiet place to stop!

Sounds like a far far better bet than The Commodore in Fowey: by some way the worst meal I have had in 30 years. Cynical, nasty place.

RFYC is also great for lunch.... great spot.

The chef even brought out some ham for freddie.

On last visit Sams looked good but far too noisy/and packed anyway, so tried the oldish pub on the dogleg corner of the road, quite a varied menu and turned out very much better than standard pub food. Can't remember the name though!

Have to disagree with wa*ker
I am not a civil servant and not on an expense account. Therefore perhaps my required standards are lower as I have to pay for my meals!
The commodore for us was excellent !

Michael.

Perhaps your standards accord with your manners?

'the oldish pub on the dogleg corner of the road'

The Ship Inn, excellent.

The Lugger is also good for lunch, the Gallion - normal pub fare, the King of Prussia not so good last time we ate there.

Agree wholeheartedly with Mark, have only eaten once at the Commodore, no need to return as many much better places.

Used to really enjoy the range off the board at Sams, usually ended up with several courses of 'starters'. Still very good food and the new extra covers upstairs reduce the wait if you now arrive after 6.00pm.

Upstairs at Sams 'Other Plaice' is more formal food but still good value for money.

The Boddinick Arms? is not bad at all.

Never eaten in Polruan, there is another Lugger on the quay, anyone got feedback from and of the pubs there.

Fowey is a really nice place we went there on our hols this year. must admit i preffered mevagissey, especially the fish thats served there in the fountain pub, best fish chips and peas in Britain, just has to be, gorgeous! especially washed down with a pint of the rattler !

Highly recommended !

PS. in Fowey as you walk down into the village centre from that big hill, the road makes an immediate left 90degree turn ,just on that corner there's an ice cream shop, thats awesome icecream !;)

Not to sure about eating out but Fowey is my preferred port if storm bound for a few days. The pub on the inland side of the 'high street' opposite another with river frontage has always done good beer and the food looked good as well.

Another year for trying .....

Sam's...

absolutely the best food in Fowey. Well worth the wait. Love the informal atmosphere and the jostling...

It's Fowey for me and almost all the pubs are OK in the town. Also at Polruan.

But in peak season, when Cornwall is full to bursting, they all get a bit ragged at the edges - like most of Cornwall does if truth be known, unless you're paying for Stick Rein or somewhere similar!

I believe there is another Sam's now at Polkerris, anyone visited that one yet? When we anchored off Polkerris In May last year the pub food was pretty average so I'm looking for a good excuse to return :-)
