Following on from the bellows replacement weekend, this weekend was the turn of the coppercoat treatment,

after low pressure slurry wash, the remains of the gelshield (blue coat) was inspected to see if still sound, before small chips and scratches filled with polyester, props put in place and jacks lowered to allow continuous coverage

mix up the epoxy and add 2kgs of copper per litre, yeah 2kgs!
and christ it makes it heavy

first coat almost transparent, doubt enters your mind at this point, is this stuff going to work?

Nice job, but how long did it take you???

The first couple of pics show it as a busy boat yard, by the time we get too the last pic, the place is cleared!!!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Nice report and pics.

Cheers

Al.

A full day to slurry off the bottom, another day for repairs to the bottom, it took a very long one day to apply the coats, from 7am till 7.45 pm, the problem as far as I can work out is that it ought to be done on a hot day and then you could do it in about half that time, they say put it on, wet on tacky, but with english temperatures of a high yesterday of only 14degrees it took what seemed forever in between coats.

There are down sides to this stuff however, you can't just throw it in the water when finished, it has a 5 day curing time as its a slow epoxy rather than a paint, and you cant let it get wet for 48 hrs either, and it aint cheap, but hopefully it will then do what it says on the tin!

the "boat yard" or this part I'm in had only 4 boats in it, mine, 2 x quarter tonner's and the Nicholson, plus a few dead trailers

and thanks for your comments Al
